TAUAOIRTSALNLG:
An Archive of Time, Music & Memory
*the official title of the book is to be announced at a l8r date.
Jakiyah Cabell is a Los Angeles-born and raised multidisciplinary artist who began blending the worlds of music and storytelling in 2004 when she started writing songs and creating storylines with her expressive imagination. Growing up, she was fascinated with music, memory, and her family history, those old folktales and hymns her grandmother told her. These interests led her to begin archiving and documenting her memories while using her favorite music as a storytelling device. Later, Miss Cabell, who now works at an independent jazz record label known for working with legends and luminaries from the golden age of jazz, developed a passion for time and history. This led her to collect stories from the elders in her family and community about the moments in time that impacted them the most and how those moments informed their futures. In “TAUAOIRTSALNLG”, Jakiyah explores the nuance of generational curses and generational blessings within her bloodline through the realm of supernatural fantasy using her favorite songs and albums as the soundtrack and guide. “TAUAOIRTSALNLG” is her first novel.
