HOW I PREP FOR DIRECTORIAL WORK
this is a quick breakdown on what it is like to work with me on your directorial and video production-based projects.
it typically starts with you exploring my services page or finding me and my work on instagram, tiktok, twitter, youtube, etc. and being so intrigued by what you see that you take 10 minutes to fill out this form: https://airtable.com/shrrS7DmzxFbJxy7g
and within 5 business days, i review your responses and get back to you with a proposal. once the proposal is signed, you will receive a contract and once that is signed, you will receive an invoice. once the invoice is paid, you will get an invitation to schedule your consultation/discovery call with me.
in this email, i’ll create a list of things that you should have prepared for our consultation, a mood board, 3-5 goals that you have for this project, and how you would like me to help.
my process for preparing for our consult is as follows:
i’ll review your responses and write out any ideas that i have and the ways that i can actually help you bring this project to life. while i’m doing this, i always send a welcome gift to my clients to thank them for choosing me to help them bring their vision to life! i’d then implement my ideas and execution plan into a template and write out key points for us to discuss in our consultation.
during our consultation, it will go a bit like this:
we introduce ourselves and you tell me a bit about yourself and your project. what your goals are, your expectations, and your budget. we’ll also review your mood board and discuss how you would like me to help.
next, i’ll walk you through my process and how i can help you, my ideas, suggestions, and tips on successfully executing your project.
after this, we’ll go over any questions and concerns you may have.
lastly, we’ll share some closing remarks and then i’ll let you know when you can expect our first round of deliverables and our execution plan based on everything we discussed in our consultation.
after our consultation, it will go a bit like this:
during this time i’ll be creating necessary the deliverables and assets that we’ll need to bring your project to life. such as the execution plan, treatments/screenplay, shot list, floor plan, director’s lookbook, storyboards, budget, script breakdown, and production schedule. throughout this process, we will also be building our team and production crew and they are creating assets for their workflow as well. (AD, DP, wardrobe, art department, editors, composers, etc.)
once deliverables are approved by you we’ll move into the production phase and depending on the project the schedule will vary from one day to a few months at a time.
when production wraps we immediately move into post-production to deliver the first rough cut, and meet for critiques and revisions until the final cut is delivered. next is the sound design process, where we meet for spotting sessions with the editors and sound designers for music cues, soundtrack, foley, and sound FX. lastly, we deliver the final cut to the client and begin the offboarding process.
which concludes with a recap meeting and project report. i send out a goodbye email and gift and then archive the project.
once complete, the deliverables will be sent to you and we will begin the offboarding process which is essentially a check-in on your progress and if our consultation met your expectations. i also send my clients a goodbye gift to show my appreciation for working with them.
and that’s it!
